Breakout session 7: Designing for everyone – Inclusive technologies and platforms

Description
For technology to help reduce rather than reinforce social divides, accessibility, universal design and user co-creation need to be part of the innovation process from the outset. Science parks, innovation hubs and living labs are already applying inclusive design across physical infrastructure, digital platforms and regional innovation ecosystems, with users and communities playing a more active role in shaping solutions that empower all members of society.
Delegates will hear four cases that offer practical pathways toward inclusive innovation, ranging from support for underrepresented entrepreneurs to the design of accessible technologies and services. Tecnopuc Crialab (Brazil) uses institutionalised design capabilities to connect public healthcare, corporate R&D and cultural education. Prince of Songkla University Science Park in Thailand operates a Halal Innovation Platform supporting regional SMEs through certification and market linkages to empower regional SMEs in non-Muslim majority contexts. Iran’s SANRU/STPIA framework combines physical accessibility and assistive technology in dedicated centres for entrepreneurs with disabilities. In Spain, the Science Park of Alicante uses a living-lab approach and citizen co-creation to address privacy and affordability in emerging drone, AI and water technologies.
