Breakout session 9: Ethical entrepreneurship and value-driven innovation

October 29th, 2026 — 9:30 - 10:30

Description

Making sure emerging technologies serve human well-being means moving ethical evaluation upstream, into incubation and technology transfer, rather than once a product is ready for the market. This also means creating innovation environments where ethics is part of how decisions are made, with value-driven leadership, inclusive governance, multi-stakeholder collaboration and ecosystem-level mechanisms that help ensure technology promotes human dignity, equity and accountability.

La Maison de l’IA (France) opens the session with a Focus Talk presenting a public-hub model connecting technology and civil society through demonstrations and public-sector transformation aligned with the European AI Act. The following examples move the discussion into university incubation and early-stage innovation, with Chiang Mai University’s Science and Technology Park in Thailand, which uses an ethical alignment matrix when scouting early-stage prototypes, and Alicante Science Park in Spain working with age-segmented citizen focus groups to translate public expectations around privacy and data into requirements for startups.
