Dr. Bengi Atun completed her primary, secondary and high school education at the top of her class, her undergraduate degree in Architecture and Fine Arts at The Rhode Island School of Design, her master’s degree in Environment and Development at The School of Oriental and African Studies in London and her PhD in Museum Studies and Cultural Heritage at Koç University, Istanbul. She received full scholarships from Fulbright and the British Council through which she financed her entire education. She has certification in Green Building Design and 15 years of practice in architecture.

For the past 4 years, she has been teaching design studio courses, sustainability courses and museums studies and cultural heritage courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In her current role as Assist. Prof. at Istanbul Medipol University, she is coordinating the Introduction to Design I and Introduction to Design II design studio courses. In her PhD thesis (2019) titled The Museology of Peacebuilding; Making New Histories and Heritages in Cyprus, she argues for and delineates a new type of multi and cross-disciplinary domain of practice designed to assist peacebuilding efforts in regions of conflict around the world. She is also currently working part-time at the İTÜ Arı Technopark in İstanbul, Turkey.
